Should we share our faith with others?
1 Corinthians 9:16
For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
Matthew 4:17b
Telling people about your faith in Jesus or telling people to turn from their wicked ways is rarely at the top of our to-do-list. It can be a bit intimidating, and highly unpopular.
But… if eternal damnation is real, and you knew a way to avoid it and have eternal life, shouldn’t you tell others?
Many Christians feel that pointing out sin and preaching God’s Law is wrong or too judgmental. “Jesus loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life,” is their mantra. This method of evangelism has the great potential of making false converts that are headed to hell.
Evangelist A. B. Earle was a strong believer in the preaching of future punishment:
“I have found by long experience that the severest threatenings of the Law of God have a prominent place in leading men to Christ. They must see themselves lost before they will cry for mercy. They will not escape from danger until they see it.”
~ A. B. Earle
There is only one way to God.
Everyone is in need of a Savior because everyone has violated the law of God. We all deserve the fires of hell as a just punishment for our sins, but Jesus paid the price as a sacrifice for all.
One must repent and put his faith in Jesus Christ in order to be forgiven of his sins and receive the gift of eternal life.
REPENT
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
The message of Jesus was simple: Matthew 4:17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
The message for us today is the same:
R E P E N T !
Noah Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines REPENTANCE as follows:
3. Real penitence; sorrow or deep contrition for sin, as an offense and dishonor to God, a violation of his holy law, and the basest ingratitude towards a Being of infinite benevolence. This is called evangelical repentance, and is accompanied and followed by amendment of life.
Repentance is a change of mind, or a conversion from sin to God. – Hammond.
Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation. 2Cor. 7 Matt. 3
Repentance is the relinquishment of any practice, from conviction that it has offended God. – Johnson.
Acts 26:20 … I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.
The 10 Commandments
God’s Law/ Exodus 20:1-17
1. YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.
2. YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF ANY GRAVEN IMAGE.
3. YOU SHALL NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD YOUR GOD IN VAIN.
4. REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY.
5. HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER.
6. YOU SHALL NOT MURDER.
7. YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.
8. YOU SHALL NOT STEAL.
9. YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS.
10. YOU SHALL NOT COVET.
John 14:15
“If you love me, you will obey what I command.”
Jeremiah 6:17
I appointed watchmen over you and said, “Listen to the sound of the trumpet!” But you said, “We will not listen.”
Is God Calling You?
Fellow Christian, is the Lord calling you to raise your voice like a trumpet? Does the Almighty want you to rebuke the wicked and warn them of their impending doom in hell? Do you sense an urgency to warn lukewarm Christians that they have lost their saltiness and are no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot?
Be encouraged! Step out in faith. Follow Jesus and become a fisher of men.
Matthew 9:37,38 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Isaiah 58:1
“Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.
Declare to my people their rebellion
and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.”
John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
